
Hundreds of farmers have become victims of crop damage due to the movement of nine elephants in several villages of Vangar Mandal from the district of Vizianagarama and Sithamphet from the Parvatipuram-Manyam district. Farmers who cultivated bananas, pineapple, unpeeled and other crops lost their lakes worth crops due to wandering through wild elephants.
Farmer A. Sarojammma Farmer said she caused huge losses due to damage to crops in the village of Vangar Mandal Vangary Mandal Voni Agharam. The residents of Sivvaram, Sithampuram, Gorapad, Chinabagg Villages claimed that the forest department did not take the initiative to take the elephants to the forest area.
The former village of Sangam Sarpanch Srinivasa Rao said that people could not be able to sleep for many days because elephants moved very close to residential areas. The movement of elephants very close to electrical transformers also caused voltage between the locals. May 12, 2023, up to four elephants were electronically covered by accidentally touched the live wires near the unprotected transformer in the village of Katragadda in the Parvatipuram Manyam district.
The State Secretary of Rythu Coolie Sangham Dantuluri Varma claimed that the forest department could not protect elephants and people with their bad watching wild elephants. He asked the government to assess the damage to crops and quickly ensure that farmers re -cultivate crops. He asked the Forest Department to reveal the total compensation for the last few years, while charging no coordination between the forest and income officials regarding the assessment of damage to the completion of compensation. Forest officials argued that the applications were quickly processed to pay the victims.
