The Vidhana Soudha police have registered an FIR against a city-based electricity supplier for allegedly threatening Bescom officials to extort money.
Based on a complaint filed by a contractor, John Benedict, who also filed a complaint with the Lokayukta, the police on Wednesday, November 6, charged the accused, identified as Sharanappa Kuribanalla, under Section 308 (extortion) of the BNS.
According to the complaint, Sharanappa, who claims to be a social activist and anti-corruption crusader, made available audio and video conversations between Bescom officials and contractors. Using this, he allegedly started blackmailing the officials, demanding money and threatening to file a case against them in the Lokayukta.
