When summer rainfall returns to the rear seat and hot weather, electricity consumption began to shoot again in Kerala. The daily electricity consumption exceeded 100 million units (MU) for the first time in May.
Consumption was at 100.40 MU 12 and 101.21 MU 13.
Compared to the summer season 2024, consumption remained on the electricity council (KSEB) this time with stable summer showers, which in March and April bring colder weather. During the summer to 2024, Kerala recorded its highest daily consumption of 115.94 MU and top demand at 5,797 MW, both in the first week of this year.
Pre-summer evaluation
This summer, they were not able to consume anywhere, data show. The highest daily consumption recorded in March 2025 was 103.17 MU and in April 102.88 MU. The assessment of the pre-summer made by KSEB assumed the level of consumption to exceed 2024 records.
Electricity consumption during the summer months in Kerala is largely driven by the use of air conditioning.
Dive into rainfall
According to the latest data on Kereal precipitation, the quantum of summer rainfall has received “normal” from “large surplus” in the early April days.
Storage in Hydel Reservoirs managed by KSEB is 32%. This is not significantly higher or lower than in previous years, showing the tank data.
