Senior Supreme Court lawyer and Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal cited “unprecedented” measures taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) ahead of polling in West Bengaland claimed that an “unconstitutional emergency” had been imposed in the state where “the EC and not the BJP” appeared to be fighting against the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Mr. Sibal said.
Other leaders of the Indian National Development Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc also spoke to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on the issue.
