Officials of the Red Sandalwood Anti-Smuggling Task Force (RSASTF) on Friday (December 5) arrested eight red sandalwood smugglers and seized 12 logs in the Sanipaya forest area of Annamayya district.
As per the action plan of RSASTF Chief L. Subbarayudu and SP P. Srinivas, a team led by RSI P. Naresh and ARSI N. Sridhar Reddy conducted combing operations in Kailasakona under DSP Md. on Thursday. Shareefa in Sanipaya forest area.
When the team reached Chinna Muchurallagutta of Rayavaram section, they noticed a group of people. When they saw the police, they tried to flee but were chased and surrounded by the RSASTF team.
RSASTF officials found 12 trunks of red sanders with them. They seized the logs and arrested them, who were later identified as residents of Kallakurichi district in Tamil Nadu. They were taken to Tirupati Task Force police station.
DSP V. Srinivas Reddy and ACF J. Srinivas interrogated them. CI Khadar Bhasha has registered a case and investigation is on.
