Three days after a woman and her two children died near Charlapalli railway station, the railway police said they have found no clear motive behind the move despite questioning at least eight people associated with the family.
An official close to the investigation said statements of family members including the woman’s mother and brother, colleagues and the woman’s husband, who works in Dubai, have been recorded over the past three days. “However, none of them expressed suspicion towards anyone or indicated any obvious distress. Those interviewed said that even a day before the incident, no signs of apprehension were noted in the woman,” the official said.
The incident came to light in the early hours of January 31 when the bodies of 38-year-old Penata Vijay, a software employee, and her children, 18-year-old Chetana Reddy and 17-year-old Vishal Reddy, both students, were found on the outskirts of Charlapalli railway station.
Police said Vijay’s husband, Surender Reddy, aged around 54, was contacted over phone as part of the preliminary investigation and arrived in Hyderabad from Dubai later on Saturday evening to attend the final rites. He was subsequently questioned by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
During the investigation, the police found a small handwritten note from Vijay’s car stating that no one was responsible for their deaths without giving any specific reason for this extreme step. Preliminary findings indicate that she arrived at the station, parked her car in the compound and walked with the children towards the outskirts of the city before jumping in front of a moving train. Further investigations are underway to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
