Eight people were killed on Friday (March 27, 2026) when a pick-up truck carrying devotees rammed into a stationary trailer parked on the side of a national highway under Saini police station limits in Kaushambi district.
A truck carrying two dozen devotees, including women and children, was traveling from Prayagraj to Fatehpur. “Eight persons lost their lives in the incident while some others sustained serious injuries. Rescue operations are currently underway and the injured persons have been shifted to a nearby community health center for treatment,” said Jyoti Narayan, Additional Director General (ADG) Prayagraj.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the deaths and ordered district officials to speed up relief efforts.
“The loss of life in the road accident in Kaushambi district is extremely sad. My condolences to the bereaved family. Instructions have been given to provide financial assistance of ₹ 2,000 to each family of those who died in the accident and ₹ 50,000 to each of the injured and district administration officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and give proper treatment to Ram. departed souls, strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense grief and speedy recovery to the injured,” he said in a statement.
