Eight dead as vehicle falls into well in Maharashtra

Eight people, including four women and four children, were killed and seven others injured on Sunday (June 14, 2026) when a pickup truck carrying them plunged into a roadside well in Malshiras tehsil of Solapur district in Maharashtra, police said.
Fifteen people were traveling in the vehicle when the incident occurred near Tandulwadi village, police said.
“According to preliminary information, a pick-up vehicle carrying 15 people fell on the roadside well after the driver lost control. Eight people, including four women and four children, were killed and seven others sustained injuries,” said Atul Kulkarni, Superintendent of Police, Solapur.
The vehicle is being pulled out of the well and the injured persons were rushed to the hospital, he said.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the loss of life in the accident and announced a financial assistance of ₹5 crore to the next of kin of each deceased.
Describing the accident as “extremely unfortunate and tragic”, Mr Fadnavis said: “I express my sincere condolences to the deceased and share the grief with their families.”
Seven people have been rescued and are currently undergoing treatment, the CM said.
The Solapur district collector and police superintendent immediately rushed to the accident site and the state government was in constant touch with the local administration to monitor the situation, Mr. Fadnavis said.
