Eight people were killed and seven injured after a van carrying them fell into a well in Malshiras area of ​​Maharashtra’s Solapur district, police said on Monday (Jun 15, 2026).

“Pilgrims were returning after visiting the Siddhanath temple at Mhaswad in Solapur when their van fell into a well near Tandulwadi village. A five-member committee has been formed to investigate the incident and recommend measures to prevent such accidents,” Solapur District Collector S. Karthikeyan said.

The accident happened on Sunday (June 14, 2026) around 5:15 p.m. According to the police, the driver lost control and the van fell into a well along the road.

The deceased have been identified as Pooja Satore (23), Pooja Bawache (27), Indubai Bawache (60), Ashwini Bawache (27), Aarav Anil Satore (8), Sanskar Bawache (14), Sanskruti Sandip Bawache (14) and six-month-old toddler Samarth Bawache.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of ₹5 crore to the families of the deceased. “A number of devotees lost their lives after their vehicle fell into a well on a private farm. It is tragic and heartbreaking,” Mr. Fadnavis said.
