The police arrested eight persons and seized 17 logs of red sanders weighing almost 326.70 kg along with three vehicles. The total value of the seized property is approximately ₹10.54 crore.
Acting on a tip-off, Inspector Khajipeta S. Vamsidhar along with his team and officials of the forest department allegedly tracked the movement of some persons in the forest area near Chilla Kanuma on the western side of Nagasanipalle village in Khajipeta mandal of Kadapa district in the early hours of Sunday. The persons who saw the policemen tried to run away, leaving behind the truck in which they were loading logs of red sanders.
In the presence of local people, the police arrested eight people, several others managed to escape. The accused have been identified as Chitteni Prathap Reddy, Kommalapati Hari Krishna and Dandu Krupa Kumar, all hailing from Tirupati district; Edagottu Sheshu, Edagottu Teja, Kanala Vara Chandra Kumar and Machireddy Srinivasula Reddy of Kadapa district; and Bandi Mahendra of Chittoor district.
The Subdivisional Police Officer (SDPO) commended Khajipet Inspector and his team for their successful operation.
