India (RGI) General (RGI) asked all states to ensure that birth certificates were issued to mothers of newborns before being released from hospitals, especially government hospitals, which represent more than 50% of institutional birth in the country.
The RGI office said the registrar should provide a birth certificate as soon as the birth registration is completed “but no later than seven days” in electronic or other format.

He said that government hospitals, community health centers and primary health centers are working throughout the country because the registration units and registors of these units should be sensitized to the importance of the immediate issue of the birth certificate because its usefulness has recently been increased.
Since October 1, 2023, a digital birth certificate is the only document that demonstrates the date of birth of various services, such as admission to educational institutions, government jobs, marriage registration, among other things.

The centralized database will be used to update the national population register (NPR), ration cards, registration of real estate and election roles.
The RGI letter said that these steps would bring comfort to ordinary people and cause good will.
Earlier in March, the RGI office warned private and government hospitals to find out that many medical institutions had reported the law, adding that almost 10% of birth was not registered.
