The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is deliberately sabotaging the Kodakara hawala case to protect the BJP functionaries involved in it, alleged CPI district secretary KG Shivanandan.
“The demand for the ED to investigate the Kodakara hawala case was raised by the CPI from the very beginning. We insisted that the case should be investigated by a special investigation team appointed by the state government and tried in a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. It was also recommended that the case be brought under the purview of the ED for a comprehensive investigation of guilt and strict prosecution.
However, Mr. Shivanandan charged that once the ED took charge, the investigation became superficial and compromised.
“The ED did not conduct the investigation in the right way. The roles of BJP Alappuzha district general secretary Gopalakrishnan Kartha and former Thrissur district treasurer Sujaisenan were already publicly exposed by Tirur Satheeshan, then BJP Thrissur district office secretary, during a press conference. In a case with around 130 key witnesses, the ED said they did not even record these statements.”
The CPI leader claimed that the agency’s intentions were revealed when it ignored key testimonies.
“The ED completed the investigation without following the necessary procedural requirements and has now submitted a report which weakens the case to the point where it cannot stand before a special court. This is a calculated attempt to protect the real culprits,” Shivanandan said.
He called the ED’s move a “challenge to the judicial system” and accused the agency of working as a tool of the BJP.
“The so-called investigation is nothing but a farce and will soon be exposed in a special court. The public must recognize this deliberate sabotage,” he said.
