The former Indian cricket Suresh Raina was convened by the Directorate for Handling of the Law for Tomorrow in connection with the case of 1xbet. It is expected to appear in front of the agency to record its statement.
This summons come as part of a wider intervention against illegal betting applications and platforms, many of which have been promoted by celebrities.
In May, the Tellangan police submitted cases against 25 popular actors, including Rany Daggubati and Prakash Raj. Both actors have denied any unlawful conduct and stated that they no longer approve of such platforms and that when they had it, campaigns were limited to regions where games based on online skills are legally allowed.
On Monday, actor Rana Daggubati appeared before the recovery headquarters in Hyderabad in connection with the ongoing investigation of alleged unlawful promotion of online betting platforms. Previously he was summoned on July 23, but he was looking for more time and quoting film commitments, after which his appearance was overwhelmed until 11 August.
ED also examines financial transactions and digital trails of several other celebrities named in FIR, including actors Manchu Lakshmi, Nidhi Agarwal, Ananya Nagalla and Srimukhi TV anchors.
Between 2023 and 2024, the authorities also watched the highly profiled case of Mahdev online betting, which included charges against higher politicians and bureaucrats of Chhattisgarh, including former main Minister Bhupesh Baghel, who was accused of being the main recipient.
Baghel denied any reference to fraud, called the accusation of “politically motivated” and noted that they had emerged before the state elections in 2023 and last year’s Lok Sabha surveys.
