The Directorate for enforcement (ED) performs search operations on Wednesday at 17 locations in Kerala and Tamil over the alleged violation of foreign exchange (FEMA), associated with a high -ranking luxury smuggling missile and unauthorized foreign exchange actions, the officials said.
The ongoing searches, launched by Ed’s Kochi Zonal Office, Space Residence and Commercial Businesments associated with film personalities, luxury car owners, car workshops and sellers across Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kottayam and Coimbore, said clerks. Among those who are under the scanner are important actors Prithviraj, Dulquer Salmaan and Amith Chackalakal, whose qualities were among the wanted places, they mentioned.
Officials revealed that search was based on inputs that revealed a syndicate involved in illegal imports and registration of top luxury vehicles, including the Toyota Land Cruisers, Land Rover and Maseratis, across the borders of India-Bhutan and India.
Preliminary findings point to a network based on Coimbatore, which allegedly uses counterfeit documents that declare that they come from the Indian Army, the US Embassy and the Ministry for External Affairs (MEA). These were allegedly used to ensure fraudulent vehicle registrations from regional transport firms (RTO) in states such as Arunacal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and others.
Luxury vehicles were then sold at a significantly undervalued price to individuals with a high net value (pus), including celebrities from the film industry, according to officials.
Kerala HC allows Dulquer Salmaan to access
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the High Court in Kerala ordered actor Dulquer Salmaan to submit an application to the Arbitration Office under the 1962 Customs Act for the Provisional release of his defender Land Rover, who was confiscated by customs officials during the “Numkhor” operation.
According to Dulquer Salmaan, the defense attorney Land Rover was originally sent to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for his regional delegation in Nový Delhi, PTI informed. In his petition, the actor claimed that he really believed that the vehicle had proper ownership documents and valid registration with the motor vehicle, no reason to doubt its legitimacy. The application also explained that Dulquer bought the vehicle from Aarpee Promotors PVT LTD, which previously received it from Habeeb Mohammed, a registered owner.
The court also asked the customs authorities to decide within one week of receiving Dulquera. The vehicle was confiscated after an invasion of the actor residence, carried out in the framework of the “Numkhor”, an intervention against suspected tax evasion and the illegal import of vehicles from Bhutan by counterfeit registration.
