The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday conducted fresh raids against Punjab Industries Minister Sanjeev Arora and several others allegedly linked to him in a money laundering case, officials said.
Among the five places searched were Arora’s official residence in Chandigarh and a real estate firm in Gurugram, Haryana, they added.
The action was taken under the penal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), officials said.
In April, the ED raided Arora and entities associated with him under the civil provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA).
Arora then said that he will fully cooperate with the investigating agencies and that he is confident that the truth will prevail.
The Ludhiana West MLA was also raided by the ED in 2024 in a money laundering case linked to the alleged misuse of industrial land for residential projects. Arora was then a Rajya Sabha MP.
“Punjab will never bow down to Modi’s tactics”
CM Mann said this was the third ED visit to Arora’s house in one year and the second in the last month, but claimed that nothing has been found so far.
He said that Punjab will not yield to pressure or political tactics.
In a post on X Punjab CM wrote, “Today again BJP ED came to Sanjeev Arora’s house. It is third time in one year that BJP ED came to his house. And in last month, second time. Still they found nothing. I want to say Modi ji which country of Punjab which is even Gurdurus.”
The Chief Minister also said that Punjab, the land of gurus and freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, has always stood firm against injustice and will continue to do so.
“This is the land of Bhagat Singh who never bowed down to the British, so Punjab will never bow down to Modi’s tactics.
. The end of this unethical ED-BJP alliance will start from Punjab itself,” the post read.
Further, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh also criticized the BJP, calling the ED a “supari killer” and claiming that the raids were politically motivated.
He claimed that the agency would spread “fake news” for days before departure without result.
