Economic Self-Reliance Key to India’s Rise in the New Global Order: S. Gurumurthy

Eminent economist S. Gurumurthy delivered a lecture at an event organized by the Nationalist Thinkers Forum in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Renowned economist and thinker S. Gurumurthy said that self-reliance is not a recent concept but is deeply rooted in India’s civilizational ethos and social fabric. He noted that the United States could lose its position as a superpower in the coming years because it lacked the civilizational foundation that supported countries like India and China. He also warned that as the country’s global influence increased, certain foreign forces were attempting to create internal divisions and weaken the nation by creating divisions among its people, stating that India was emerging as a strong economic and geopolitical power.

Speaking on ‘Democracy, Diplomacy and Development: Prioritizing Indian People, Partnership and Progress’ at an event organized by the Nationalist Thinkers Forum in Hyderabad, Mr. Gurumurthy explained the intrinsic connection between Atmanirbhar Bharat and contemporary geopolitics. He stressed that economic self-reliance is essential to protect India’s national interests and strengthen its position in the emerging global order.

Referring to the entrepreneurial culture of Ludhiana and several other traditional industrial and commercial centers across the country, he highlighted how entrepreneurship, innovation and self-employment have flourished in Indian society for generations.

Referring to the recent protests in Delhi, he said that such developments need to be viewed in the larger geopolitical context and that citizens must remain vigilant against attempts to create unrest and instability. He emphasized that economic self-reliance, social cohesion, national unity and civilizational consciousness were essential to ensure India’s continued progress and protect the country from external interference.
