ECI helps BJP win elections, claims TPCC chief

Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Monday demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, alleging that the Election Commission of India (ECI) was supporting the BJP in manipulating electoral rolls to help the party win elections.

He attended a rally on the issue in New Delhi along with AICC president Mallikarjun Kharg, senior party leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Addressing a rally against alleged vote-stealing and irregularities in the Special Intensive Review (SIR) of electoral rolls, he said people from across the country had thronged the national capital to intensify the movement against electoral malpractices. The youth, in particular, were upset over alleged irregularities involving the BJP and the Election Commission, he said.

Mr. Goud alleged that the BJP was trying to win the election through vote-stealing and accused the Election Commission of supporting the ruling party. He said there was substantial evidence of irregularities in the SIR process and urged the Supreme Court to hear the opposition’s arguments on the issue.

He demanded that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resign or be removed from office by the Union government. The Congress will continue its agitation till the demand is met, he said.

Several Telangana ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, AICC observer Sachin Sawant and other senior Congress leaders also participated in the protest.
