The Indian Election Commission (ECI) said on Friday that it has eliminated 474 more registered unrecognized political parties (RUUP) for not listening to only one election over the past six years.
In the first phase of the exercise, which took place on August 9, ECI eliminated 334 registered unrecognized political parties.
After the last removal of RUUP, a total of 808 registered unrecognized political parties have been excluded in the last two months.
“The instructions for the registration of political parties mention that if the party does not participate continuously for 6 years, the party will be removed from the list of registered parties,” ECI said on Friday.
“As part of a comprehensive and continuous strategies for cleaning the electoral system, eCi nationwide exercises performs to identify and eliminate registered unrecognized political parties (RUPP), which have not fulfilled the basic condition of the only elections for 6 years continuously, since 2019,” the Election Commission said.
In the second phase, “ECI eliminated 474 Rupp on 18 September 2025 based on non -connected in the elections made continuously for years. In the last 2 months, 808 RUUP has been eliminated,” she added.
All political parties in the country are registered with the Indian Election Commission under Section 29a of the 1951 Act.
The ECI further stated that 359 more registered unrecognized political parties have been identified for the fact that in the last three financial years, since 2021-2022-23 and 2023-24, they have not provided their annual audited accounts. But they had the voting attacked.
‘In order to further take over, 359 such RUUPs have been identified because they have not provided their annual audited accounts (ie 2021–2022-23, 2023-24) in the last three financial years in the specified period of time and questioned the election reports.
He added that the CEOs of the relevant states/UTS were ordered to issue a notice of the cause to ensure that no party was disproportionately excluded. The parties will then be provided with opportunities to hear the CEOs in question.
Until recently, there were 2,520 Rupp. After exercise on the list remains 2 046 RUUP.
