The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the timetable for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh with January 1, 2026 set as the eligibility date. The window for applications and objections will now run from January 6 to March 6, 2026, with the final voter list to be published on April 10, 2026.
The ECI also directed that the revised schedule be notified in the State Gazette and widely publicized.
Earlier, the final voter list was supposed to be published on March 6. The commission said the updated lists will now be published on April 10.
In a directive issued to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) on Thursday, the ECI said it reviewed the proposal submitted on February 2 and “after considering other relevant factors” decided to modify the ongoing SIR timetable.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Executive Navdeep Rinwa told reporters in Lucknow that the Commission has extended the deadline for submission of applications and objections by a month, till March 6. He said the SIR exercise started on October 27 last year and the draft voter list was released on January 6 after the enumeration phase was completed.
According to the original schedule, complaints and objections were to be submitted between January 6 and February 6. However, after a meeting with recognized national and state political parties on January 27, during which several parties sought additional time, a proposal was sent to the ECI, Rinwa said.
“The EC has decided to extend the last date for applications and objections from February 6 to March 6. This gives voters another month to submit Form 6 for listing names, Form 7 for deletions and requests for corrections or objections,” he said.
Rinwa added that the deadline for disposal of notices related to mapping irregularities has also been extended from February 27 to March 27, with the final resolution of such cases now extended to March 27.
The CEO said a large number of applications were received during the review. Around 16.18 lakh Form 6 applications and 49,399 Form 7 applications were filed between October 27 and January 6. Over 37.8 lakh Form 6 applications were received from January 6 to February 4, while 82,684 Form 7 applications were filed between January 6 and February 5.
A record 3,51,745 Form 6 applications were received on February 5 alone, indicating a sharp increase in the pace of filing.
