An earthquake of size 4.3 hit Nepal on the first Friday, as stated by the National Center of Seismology (NCS).
NCS provided details in the X post.
According to the NCS, the earthquake occurred at 01:33 hours at a depth of 10 kilometers in Nepal.
It took place on the Latitude 29.36 N and the length of 80.44 E.
“EQ of M: 4.3, at: 23/05/2025 01:33:53 ist, lat: 29,36 N, long: 80,44 E, depth: 10 km, location: Nepal.”
No immediate reports of victims or major damage were found. More details are expected.
Shallow earthquakes are more dangerous than a deeper country because of their greater release of energy closer to the surface of the Earth’s country, causing stronger soil trembling and increased damage to structures and victims, compared to deeper earthquakes that lose energy when traveling to the surface.
Nepal is highly susceptible to the earthquake because of its location on the convergent border where Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates collide. This collision creates tremendous pressure and stress that is released as an earthquake. Nepal is also located in the subduction zone, where the Indian board slips under the Eurasian plate, which further increases stress and tension.
Nepal lies in the Himalayan region, the intensive seismic activity zone caused by the ongoing collision of Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates. This collision results in the Indian plate pushing under the Eurasian plate in a process called subduction, creating huge pressure and tension on the Earth’s crust.
The subference zone further strengthens stress, so Nepal is highly vulnerable to the earthquakes. The collision also contributes to the rise of the Himalayan mountains and increases the overall seismic activity in the region.
Nepal has a long history of earthquakes, including devastating events such as the earthquake in 2015.
Earlier April 26, a minute of silence was observed at 8,969 victims that lost their lives on April 25, 2015, in a devastating earthquake of 7.8 Richter ten years ago.
He stood under the replica of the Dharahara tower, who fell ten years ago during the earthquake, killed dozens, Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli remembered those killed in a natural disaster.
