An earthquake today: a massive earthquake of 7.5 Magnitude struck from the Filipino coast on Friday and raised concerns about a possible tsunami and shocks throughout the region.
While the European Seismology Center (EMSC) initially rebelled at 7.4, the Philippine Institute of Sopure and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said the size was 7.6. Later it revised the size of the initial reading 7.6 to 7.5 and gave the depth of the earthquake to 20 km (12 million).
After Friday’s earthquake, PHIVOLCS said AP that he expected to expect damage and shocks from the earthquake, which was concentrated at sea about 62 kilometers southeast of Manay, Davao Oriental and was caused by the movement.
The warning center of the Pacific tsunami in Honolulu initially said that dangerous waves were possible within 300 kilometers from Epicentre, with waves of up to 3 meters (10 feet) above normal inflows on some of the Philippines near Epicent and possible smaller waves in Indonesia and Palau.
However, the Pacific Warning Center raised a warning of the Tsunami for the Philippines, Palau and Indonesia.
“There is no longer a threat from this earthquake,” he said in counseling.
This means that fears of victims persist: President Ferdinand Marcos JR said the authorities assessed the situation on the ground and added that the search and rescue teams would be deployed in the region if it were safe.
“We work continuously to ensure that help will appeal to all who need it,” Marcos said in his statement.
The local authorities in the affected region could not be immediately reached, Reuters reported.
Friday’s earthquake comes the day after an earthquake of 4.4 at 10:30 at the local time of October 9, 2025, with its epicenter three kilometers northwest of Pugo in La Union province at a depth of 23 kilometers.
Tremic caused a strong trembling in Baguio, which led to evacuation at schools and universities and suspension of classes for the Mayor of Benjamin Magalong, while lower intensities influenced the areas in Benguet, the province of Mountain and Pangasinan.
No victims or major damage were reported, although PHIVOLCS warned of possible shocks in the seismically active area.
The Philippines consist of what is called the Pacific Fire Ring, where 90% of the earthquakes in the world, including some of the largest.
