
The department of local governments on the collection of electronic waste (electronic waste) from households will also be expanded to Grama Panchayats next month. The collector’s unit, performed by Harith Karma Sena volunteers, was launched on a pilot basis in December 2024 in several villages and Gram Panchayats throughout the state. Later in July this year it was extended to all corporations.
Within the collection unit, electronic waste is collected from households and a nominal amount provided to the owners. Until this month, the household was provided with a total amount of 8.84 ₹ Lakh via Harith Karma hay. The collected electronic waste is handed over to recycles via the Metal Scrap Trade Corporation Corporation Limited (MSTC), while hazardous electronic waste is handed over for the Kerala Enviro Infrastructure Limited (Keil) in Ernacula.
The project is implemented by Clean Kerala in cooperation with Missionwa Mission, local self -governing institutions, Harith Karma hay, kudumbashree, schools, universities, residential associations and electronic retailers. CRT television, refrigerator, washing machine, microwave, blender grinder, fan, laptop, CPU, CRT monitor, mice, keyboard, LCD monitor, LCD/LED TV, printer, photos, iron box, mobile, telephone, radio, modem, conditioner, climate, CTS, CD. Type, PCB plates, speakers, headphones, switching plates, emergency lamp and similar non -functional or outdated items of electronic equipment are considered electronic waste.
Over the past five years, Clean Kerala has passed over 38,405.60 tonnes of not biodegradable waste for recycling and 1.24 Lakh tons of waste for scientific processing in cement factories outside the state. Clean Kerala has agreements with three cement companies outside Kerala for handing over such a waste with 78 agencies for the transport of not biodegradable waste in vehicles equipped with GPS.
