The Nilgiris District Administration explained that e-shopping is for tourists from other districts and states entering the district via Kallar, Kunjapannai, Mel Gudalur, Mel Gudalur, Masinagudi and Geddai.
The district administration stated that the clarification came from the Madras High Court and that the system would start working from Tuesday.
While clarification may sound like relaxation of existing rules, tourists who want to visit the capitals of Udhagamandalam, Coonoor and Kotagiri would still have to get E-Pass because they would have to go through at least one of the five control treasures.
