DVAC arrested seven governments. employees for one week; seizes over ₹22 crore in surprise cheques

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested seven government employees across the state between July 4 and 10 in separate cases of entrapment for allegedly demanding and accepting bribes for discharge of official duties.

During the week, DVAC said it also conducted surprise inspections at 11 government offices in Krishnagiri, Tiruvallur, Theni, Kanyakumari, Dindigul, Thanjavur and Ranipet districts along with district inspection teams while releasing the weekly report. Officials seized ₹12.46 crore in unaccounted cash from government offices.

Separate surprise checks at six interstate vehicle checkposts led to the seizure of ₹9.87 crore in unaccounted cash. Overall, the agency recovered 22.33 lakh during the enforcement drive.

Among the entrapment cases, a junior assistant at the Tiruvennainallur Town Panchayat office in Villupuram district was arrested on July 7 for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 for approval of a building plan.

On the same day, he was arrested by a VAO in Tiruppur district for allegedly receiving ₹5,000 in transfer of patta for newly purchased land.

On July 9, Police Constable II. grade attached to the J-7 Velachery Traffic Police Station in Chennai was caught allegedly accepting ₹4,000 to return the documents of the complainant on two-wheelers. The DVAC said investigations were ongoing in all cases.
