Dutch ice cream brand Magnum opens R&D, innovation center in Bengaluru

The new RD&I center in Bengaluru will work closely with TMICC’s global design center in Colworth, UK and the regional innovation center in Istanbul, Turkey.

Amsterdam-based The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC) has opened its new Research, Design and Innovation (RD&I) center in Bengaluru.

The new RD&I center in Bengaluru will work closely with TMICC’s global design center in Colworth, UK and regional innovation center in Istanbul, Turkey, according to the company. This future-ready facility spans 13,000 square feet and houses an ice cream science lab and digital pilot plant.

Located in Whitefield, the center includes ice cream production, product and packaging evaluation, sensory testing and a state-of-the-art digital pilot plant. It enables faster experimentation with cups, bars, cones, kulfis and premium ice cream cakes, while cold chain and climate testing, 3D packaging prototyping and transport simulation help ensure that innovations are designed for real-world Indian market conditions.

“The new ice cream center in Bengaluru will help us respond more quickly to changing consumer preferences, create products that match Indian tastes and opportunities, and continue to build a future-ready ice cream business in India,” said Chitrank Goel, Deputy CEO, Kwality Walls (India) Limited.

According to Zbigniew Lewicki, Director of RD&I, The Magnum Ice Cream Company, India is one of the world’s most exciting ice cream markets with rapidly evolving tastes, opportunities and expectations. “From product and packaging development to sensory evaluation and cold chain validation, this new center will play an important role in creating products that are more relevant, distinctive and engaging for consumers in India.”
