
The Ministry of External Affairs issued a declaration of late Wednesday and raised “deep concerns” about the “kidnapping of three Indian nationals employed at the Diamond Cement factory in Kayes, the Republic of Mali”.
The ministry said that the security, security and well -being of Indian nationals abroad remain the highest priority for the Indian government.
She also recommended all Indian citizens who stay in Mali to “have the highest caution, remained to be vigilant and remain in close contact with India Embassy in Bamak for regular updates and necessary assistance”.
What happened to three Indians in Mali?
The three Indian nationals who worked at the Diamond Cement factory in Mali’s Kayes were a hostage of 1 July during a coordinated attack of armed attackers in the factory.
There were no claims for the kidnapping, the PTI press agency reported.
But the al-Qaeda extremist group connected by Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam Wal-Muslimmin (Jnim) claimed responsibility for the coordinated attack in several positions of the Malian Army in the Western and Central Regions of the Earth.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the incident occurred 1 July 2025, “when a group of armed attackers carried out a coordinated attack in the factory space and forcibly took three (03) nationals as a hostage.”
“It was known about the Indian government that many military and government installations in several places of western and central Mali were attacked by terrorists on 11 July 2025,” the ministry added.
India is taking steps
India also called on the government of Mali the government to take all the necessary measures to ensure the safe and rapid release of the kidnapped Indian nationals.
“The leaders of the ministry carefully monitor the evolving situation and remain at different levels to facilitate the safe and timely release of Indian nationals,” the ministry said.
The Ministry also informed that the Indian embassy in Bamak is in close and constant communication with the relevant authorities of the Mali Government, local coercive bodies, as well as the management of the diamond cement factory.
“The mission is also in contact with family members of the kidnapped Indian nationals,” he said.
