The Lok Sabha seats will be increased up to 850 from the current 543 to “operationalize” the Women’s Reservation Act ahead of the 2029 general elections following a delimitation exercise that will be conducted based on the latest published census.
The constitutional amendment bill, which will be introduced and is expected to be passed in the upcoming special session of Parliament, would also increase seats in state and union territory assemblies to accommodate 33% reservation for women.
