As part of the nationwide protest, the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti staged a protest in Kalaburagi on Tuesday, accusing the RSS of going against constitutional values and calling on the state government to initiate immediate action against the organisation.
The protest was led by state convener of the samiti DG Sagar, samiti leaders BC Wali and Suresh Hadimani.
Members of the samiti displayed photographs of Basaveshwara, BR Ambedkar and the preamble of the Constitution as symbols of their demand to protect democratic principles.
Dr. Sagar demanded that the state government beef up security for rural development, and Panchayat Raj Minister Priyank Kharge said he received abusive messages and death threats on social media following his remarks against the functioning of the RSS and forcing the organization to register under the constitutional framework.
The protesters strongly condemned the recent attack on retired Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and derogatory comments on Dr. Ambedkar and termed them as direct attacks on the Constitution and democratic institutions.
Dr. Sagar said incidents of violence, harassment and discrimination against Dalits are on the rise across the country. He said that the threats issued to Priyank Kharge reflected attempts to intimidate the open voices of Dalits.
The samitis calling for collective action to protect constitutional values appealed to people to join movements that protect the constitution and social justice.
