Four people were injured after an SUV rammed into pedestrians near Mall of Asia in Yelahanka-Sahakar Nagar on New Year’s Day on Wednesday.
According to the Sanjay Nagar traffic police, the incident took place at Gate No. 3 at the back of the mall around 10.15 pm where the police had deployed personnel to regulate traffic in view of the New Year celebrations.
According to the complaint filed by Senior Constable Gangadhar Gurav, an SUV left the mall.
The driver, identified as Sunil Kumar Singh (48), was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, lost control, hit the iron barricades installed on the pavement and hit pedestrians walking on the road. The injured were identified as Akamma, 30, Chandrashekar, 36, Rajalakshmi, 53, Prajwal Shashidhar Chavadi, 27.
The minor girl who was run over by the vehicle miraculously escaped with minor injuries.
All the injured were taken to a private hospital. Police said the accident was caused by rash and negligent driving by the driver of the SUV.
The complaint also accused the Mall of Asia management of failing to implement adequate security measures despite heavy crowd movement during the New Year celebrations.
A case has been registered and the driver and management would be prosecuted under section 281 (impulsive or careless driving/driving on public roads), 125(a) endangering life or personal safety by rash or negligent act and also under section 185 (driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs) of the Motor Vehicle Act, police said.
