Drug menace threatens society, future generations must be protected: Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan on Friday called for united action against the growing drug menace as it threatens not only individuals but the society as a whole and future generations.

The Chief Minister said the government would fully support any initiative aimed at eliminating the menace and stressed that the fight was necessary to protect children and future generations.

Addressing the children participating in the programme, Mr. Satheesan said that the fight against narcotics requires the cooperation of the entire community as he graced a rally organized by the Excise Department in Thiruvananthapuram to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

“The drug menace is not a problem that affects only a few people. It affects us all and requires collective action. We must face it with determination to protect our dignity, our lives and our future,” he said.

He said the government was taking a systematic approach to curbing the drug trade and dismantling the networks behind it.

Referring to the efforts of the Excise Department, he said the authorities were working on well-planned strategies to identify the responsible persons.

“No matter how influential they are, where they come from or what organization they belong to, strict action must be taken against the drug mafia,” he said.

Excise Minister M. Liju was also present at the event.
