The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Hyderabad South Central Railway division on Thursday launched ‘Pink Patrol’, a first-of-its-kind initiative in Indian Railways that combines drone surveillance led by women with speedy policing for MMTS suburban trains.
While long-distance trains are covered by the RPF My Saheli initiative, officials said MMTS services pose unique operational challenges, including short-distance travel, high passenger density and faster movement cycles, which require a more agile safety mechanism. State-of-the-art drones equipped with advanced surveillance technology have been deployed under the Pink Patrol. These include thermal imaging sensors for low-light and night-time operation, night-vision optics, high-resolution real-time video transmission, long-range zoom functions for precise monitoring, and stabilized aerial platforms for continuous monitoring of moving trains. Drones also feature rapid deployment capabilities for emergency situations.
