The debut of the central court Mirry Andreeva was unforgettable. 18-year-old, one of the most promising young talents of sports, reached his first quarterfinals of Wimbledon dazzlingly-Pak immediately forgot that she had won the match.
Andreeva faced world 10 Emma Navarro and in a little over an hour attacked the victory of 6-2, 6-3. But at an incredible moment, a teenager, so focused on her rhythm and peace, did not realize that she had transformed the match point. Instead of the celebration, she came back to prepare for the next Navarro serving while the call of the referee and the applause of the crowd finally brought her back to reality.
It wasn’t the only dream moment of her afternoon.
Just two days earlier, after winning the third round, Andreeva was asked by a tennis channel that she would most like to see from Royal Box. She couldn’t choose only one, named three: Roger Federer, Andy Murray and Ryan Gosling.
One of these dreams came true on Monday.
WITH Federer watches from a royal box Andreeva, besides his wife Mirka, not only released the most commanding Wimbledon performance, but did so under the alert eye of her lifelong hero.
“I really tried not to look there,” she said during her court. “I knew once I looked, I completely lost the focus. So I did it – at 4-1.”
“I saw Roger and Mike. Frankly, it means a lot to me that you came and watched my match. It was one of my dreams to see you in real life.”
Andreeva couldn’t resist the delivery: “I just wanted to say really fast – Mirka, you look very nice. I really like your outfit.”
Despite the nerves, Andreeva has to drop the set during the tournament and is now the youngest woman to get into the quarterfinals of Wimbledon since 2006. On Wednesday she will be in the face of the Olympic gold medalist Belinda Bencic because she is trying on Wednesday because she also got to the last eight.
But until then, he has another important task to take care of – coaching.
Her own coach, finalist Wimbledon Conchita Martnez from 1994, is to play in doubles legends and plans to return kindness – in good humor.
“I’ll avenge myself in the end!” She said with a smile. “I’m already thinking about the poster I will do. I will come to court, supports – and apparently training. It’s time to return to it.”
