DRDO Scientist P. Srihari has been appointed Director of Imarat Research Centre

Renowned scientist P. Srihari, Program Director of the Advanced Defense (AD) segment of India’s Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD) programme, has been appointed Director of the Research Center Imarat (RCI), a flagship laboratory of the DRDO in Hyderabad.

Mr. Srihari graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Nagarjuna University (1990) and completed his Masters from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore and later received his Ph.D. from Osmania University, Hyderabad.

In October 1992, he joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) at the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Bengaluru. During his early years, he was involved in the development of the Multi-Mode Radar (MMR) for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) program and played a key role in the design and development of the multi-layer slot antenna.

The scientist moved to the Defense Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) in Hyderabad in December 2003, where he worked in the Liquid Propulsion Division. He led the design and development of the Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) for interceptor missiles under India’s ballistic missile defense program. The Cold Gas Reaction Control System (RCS) developed under his leadership was successfully deployed in target missiles during interceptor trials.

In 2015, he joined the Advanced Defense Program and was part of the core team that successfully executed India’s Anti-Satellite (ASAT) mission, which intercepted a satellite in low Earth orbit in March 2019. DRDO has appointed him as the Project Director of the Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM-IAF) initiative, a joint project in Israel, Aerost. release.
