The Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 saw fresh controversy in the match between Quetta Gladiators and Rawalpindiz on Friday as Daryl Mitchell pulled out twice during Usman Tariq’s stoppage time. The New Zealand batsman raised concerns about the long break in Tariq’s action before his release. Mitchell left twice during the end before the umpires stepped in to allow play to continue. The incident took place during a match between Quetta Gladiators and Rawalpindi Pindiz. Facing Tariq in the ninth over, Mitchell played a rubbish paddle off the first ball he faced. However, the pause in the bowler’s action appeared to be uncomfortable. He left twice and pointed to a pause in the middle of the action. The umpires then intervened and spoke to the batsman before play resumed.Tariq dropped three singles off the first three balls of the over. Before the fourth delivery, Mitchell left at the last moment due to the delay. The referee approached him after repeated attempts and had a short chat before continuing the game.Mitchell was later dismissed, caught and bowled by Saud Shakeel as Pindiz lost the match by 61 runs in Karachi.Mitchell’s approach is coupled with advice from Ravichandran Ashwin. Tariq was a talking point during the T20 World Cup earlier this year, with Ashwin suggesting the batsmen should walk off, forcing the umpire to call a dead ball. In this way, Ashwin believes, the batsman can shift the delay back to the bowler and umpire and reduce any advantage gained by disrupting the timing.Tariq was under scrutiny for his stop-start run and action. His run is followed by a pause before being released, after which he drops to his knees to complete the delivery. He was reported twice for suspicious activity and was cleared both times.
