
The late Dr. Mary Glowrey, who served 36 years at St. John’s General Hospital. Joseph in Guntur, was declared “venerable”, which is the second stage of the sainthood process according to the Roman Catholic Church.
St. Joseph’s General Hospital director Sr. Gladys Inviolata said through a press release on Tuesday that the recognition is a matter of pride for Guntur. Dr. Born in 1887 in Victoria, Australia, Glowrey arrived in Guntur in 1920 as the first nun-doctor-missionary of the JMJ congregation in India.
She founded the Catholic Health Association of India in 1943 and served patients in Guntur until her death in 1957.
