New York City officially declared April 14 as Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar to honor the 134th anniversary of the birth of the architect of the Indian Constitution and the global symbol of social justice.
Mayor Eric Adams made an announcement and acknowledged Ambedkara’s inheritance as an economist, political leader and tireless advocate of equality.
“Generations from around the world have crossed the oceans looking for new opportunities in New York,” Adams said in a statement.
“Over time, their contributions have turned into a pulsating history of strengthening our neighborhoods and strengthening the rich cultural tapestry of our city.”
The inheritance of social justice and reform
Adams praised Ambedkara for demanding caste discrimination and tried to increase marginalized communities.
“Ambedkar opposed discrimination against caste and worked on the protection of farmers and tenants in India,” the mayor said.
“After experienced a serious discrimination of caste in his youth, he spent the rest of his life struggle for diversity, justice and integration.”
He also emphasized the permanent challenge of the Ambedian to the action: “His message,” educate, agit, organize “, became the central movement.”
Restoring a commitment to equality ideals
The mayor emphasized the shared commitment in New York to ambedcar’s ideals.

India comes with global recognition
The Indian Minister of Trade Unions for Social Justice and Viendra Kumar welcomed this step.
“This unprecedented honor Bharat Ratna Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar, voice voice of civil rights on seven seas … is a symbol of pride for all compatriots,” Kumar said, noting that the recognition falls under the leadership of Narendra Modi.

Dr. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891 in Mhow, India. A scholar with PhD in Economics from Columbia University and DSC from the London School of Economics, later led a committee that developed an Indian Institute.
His lifelong defense of equality and human rights continues to resonate around the world – now officially in the heart of New York.
