DoT says more than five lakh fake mobile connections have been disconnected at the anti-fraud unit
In the last two years, more than five million fraudulent mobile connections have been disconnected, more than 12 million lost and stolen mobile phones have been recovered and cyber frauds worth over ₹ 1,800 crore have been prevented through the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) framework, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said on Monday.
The data was shared at a security conference organized by the Andhra Pradesh Licensed Service Area (AP LSA) in Hyderabad, which was attended by senior officials of the Transport Department, Hyderabad Police, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, CID, Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India and telecom service providers.
Director General (Telecom), Anand Khare, said the achievements reflect the ministry’s efforts to curb telecom misuse and cyber financial fraud while highlighting the need for continued coordination between government agencies, banks and telecom operators.
AP LSA also said it has blocked 11 illegal telecom and cybercriminal facilities and recovered around 2.04 lakh lost and stolen mobile phones in 2025-26, the highest in the country.
On the sidelines of the conference, Mr. Khare inaugurated the Network Security Laboratory at the DoT AP LSA office in Hyderabad, which according to the ministry is the first such facility under the DoT.
