Every Sunday evening in Chicago, the group meets North Avenue Beach for unique therapy. Screams out loud. Scream Club Chicago is a weekly meeting where people come to release stress by shouting. The event is free and more people join every week.
The group meets every Sunday at 7 pm near Castawayys in Chicago. One mother, Mamie Amin, even brought her five -year -old daughter to show her how to express hard emotions.
“Recently, we have had a lot of changes in our lives and my daughter has felt a lot of feelings and I feel like she’s a really good thing for her to see adult manipulations of all their sad, hard feelings in a healthy way,” AMC7 said.
Scream Club Chicago was founded by Manny Hernandez, a coach who moved from Los Angeles. He explains why he decided to start the club.
“You never have permission to scream in the middle of your apartment because the police will be called, so I decided to start something where people can meet,” Hernandez said.
According to co -founder Elena Soboleva, it is a “safe space” where no one judges. People feel supported and free to be themselves.
Xander Balvalcaba joined once and now comes every week. He says shouting caused to feel lighter and happier.
“One day I attended and at the end I felt happy and got everything that shouts from my system,” he said.
How does it work?
The session begins with deep breathing. The members then throw biodegradable paper into the water. These papers carry written frustration. Then all scream three times into the lake.
Tears are common. Hernandez says that life creates stress and emotions that we do not always understand. Shouting helps let go.
“In our everyday life, things that we do not necessarily have to know how to deal with them will happen, and I think we are all the balls of energy of things that are happening in our everyday life, and we follow a lot,” Hernandez said.
