Donation boxes stolen from Thrithala Temple
Two donation boxes were stolen from the Kannanur Bhagavathy Temple in Thrithala, marking the third theft reported at the temple. The theft came to light when the head priest arrived at the temple for daily rituals and found the door of the nadappanthal open on Wednesday. Two donation boxes kept on a plastic stool outside the sanctum sanctorum were found missing.
The Thrithala police reached the temple after receiving a complaint from the temple authorities. They inspected the premises and started an investigation. Donation boxes are usually opened at the end of each month to count the money. Each box normally contains between ₹4,000 and ₹6,000, according to temple officials. During the first week of this month, a ‘navaha yajna’ was held at the temple which attracted a large number of devotees. Temple authorities suspect that the boxes may have contained a larger quantity than usual.
