US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to speak this week, according to the White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. The call would come in the middle of the increasing tension after Trump accused Beijing of violating the agreement of tariff repayment, he achieved in Geneva, and Beijing claimed that Washington “raised false accusations and disproportionately accused China of violating consensus”.
Leavitt is the third head of Trump official in recent days to indicate that the telephone call is immediate. The exact date and time of conversation remains unconfirmed.
Us-China temporary tariff ceasefire of market rally
The temporary agreement on the suspension of tariffs has launched a strong auxiliary assembly on the global stock markets for 90 days.
Tension increases in spite of the Geneva ceasefire
At the beginning of this month, both parties agreed to temporarily release the tension. China reduced tariffs to US goods from 125% to 10% for 90 days, while the US proposed to reduce its tariffs to Chinese imports from 145% to 30%.
Despite this breakthrough, progress has since stopped in the middle of new disputes, including US export checks on AI chips and the abolition of Chinese student visas.
China warned that if the US continues on its current journey, “it will continue to take strong measures to comply with his legitimate rights and interests”.
However, the temporary ceasefire did not deal with the basic US complaints about Chinese economic economic procedures. These include problems such as forced technologies, industrial subsidies and limited access to the market for foreign companies.
While the short -term freezing of tariffs offers a respiratory room, it leaves more complex problems in future negotiations.
Trump accuses China of “completely violating” a business agreement; Beijing refuses the accusation
On Friday, Trump ruled a trade war in the US and China with an explosive contribution to Truth Social and accused Beijing of being able to honor the recent agreement to return tariffs.
“The bad news is that China, perhaps for some surprisingly, has completely violated our agreement with us. So much for being Mr. Nice Guy!” Trump wrote.
Trump did not provide specific details on how China reportedly interrupted the agreement, but claimed that violations were serious and intentional. Comments come less than a month after the two nations in Geneva agreed to reduce the Tit-for-for-for-to-year tariffs for 90-day cooling.
Trump says tariffs crippled the Chinese economy
In the same post, Trump claimed that his aggressive tariffs left the Chinese economy “in grave danger”, which led to the closure of the factory and unrest.
“Two weeks ago, China was in serious economic danger! The very high tariffs I set out made it impossible for China to trade on the United States market,” he said.
He also said that a wave of “mild civil riots” in China made him a rapid solution.
“I saw what was happening and didn’t like it for them, not for us. I did a quick shop with China to save them … And I didn’t want it to happen,” Trump added.
Beijing: Trump’s claims are “false” and “unlike facts”
The Chinese Ministry of Trade responded quickly and sharply and refused Trump’s accusation and reaffirmed its obligation to consensus in Geneva.
“China was firm in the protection of its rights and interests and honestly in the implementation of consensus,” the ministry said, according to AFP.
Beijing also accused Washington of “disproportionately” accusation of China and at the same time undertook his own discriminatory actions.
“Washington has raised false accusations and has disproportionately accused China of violating consensus, which is seriously contrary to the facts,” the statement said.
“We are calling on the US to meet China halfway, immediately rectify its unauthorized measures, and together follow the consensus of Geneva’s business interviews.”
What will be next?
He expects President Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping to speak in the coming days, the future of a trade ceasefire hangs in balance. Trump’s accusation and Beijing’s strict refutation indicate that the tension remains high despite diplomatic efforts.
Tariff’s Legal Battle
Separately, the US Commercial Court ruled on Wednesday that President Donald Trump had exceeded his legal authority through emergency powers to impose most of his tariffs on Chinese and other foreign goods. The decision was questioned by the legality of the wider tariff regime adopted during Trump’s administration.
However, in the case of rapid reversal, the Federal Court of Appeal temporarily renewed these tariffs less than 24 hours later. The court issued a stay at a lower court decision while reviewing the government’s appeal. He set a quick plan that ordered the applicants to answer the 5th June and Biden Administration to the response by June 9.
