TRUMP TAKES THE OATH: DONALD TRUMP BECOMES THE 45TH PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
Washington D.C., January 20, 2017 – In a historic ceremony, Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 45th President of the United States, marking the beginning of a new era in American politics. Trump, a businessman and reality TV star, defeated his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton in a bitter and highly contentious election in November 2016.
The inauguration ceremony took place on the east front of the United States Capitol Building, with Trump and his incoming First Lady Melania Trump looking out at a sea of dignitaries, world leaders, and thousands of invited guests. The ceremony was attended by the Obamas, the outgoing President and First Lady, as well as numerous world leaders, including Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and British Prime Minister Theresa May.
In his inaugural address, Trump emphasized his campaign themes of economic revival, national security, and borders, saying, "We are not alone in this fury, we are with the millions who crave to breathe free, even when that dream is far away. We will seek friendship with all nations. We will get along, but we will also make sure we are prepared. We will protect American workers and we will protect our borders, even as we extend the hand of friendship to those who share our values."
The ceremony was marked by a range of protests and demonstrations across the capital, with thousands of people taking to the streets to express their opposition to Trump’s presidency. The protests were largely peaceful, with only a few scattered incidents of property damage and arrests reported.
Trump’s presidency is set to be marked by a number of significant challenges, including the ongoing debate over the future of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, and the potential for fresh conflict with various nations around the world. Trump has been a vocal critic of the ACA, and has promised to repeal and replace it with a new system.
Between the inauguration ceremony and the transition period, Trump has been busy selecting his key advisors and cabinet members. He has named a range of politicians, business leaders, and military officers to top roles, including Sen. Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, Rep. Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State, and General James Mattis as Secretary of Defense.
As Trump took office, the world watched with bated breath, wondering how the new President would shape the country’s role on the world stage. Would he fulfill his campaign promises and redraw the global landscape, or would he be forced to adapt and find common ground with world leaders? Only time will tell.
