It all began with a canceled price – and ended with a presidential column filled with fire.
On Monday, US President Donald Trump took his social media platform, Truth Social, attack the beloved Hollywood actor Tom Hanks.
Donald Trump asks Hanks on that
President Trump killed Tom Hanks after the West Point ceremony for actors supporting veterans. Reason? The West Point graduates canceled the planned ceremony in honor of the actor who won the Oscar, the prestigious Sylvanus Thayer Award.
The prize is traditionally awarded a citizen who did not participate in the US Military Academy, but fulfilled its basic values: duty, honor and country.
At the age of 69, Hanks seemed to be a suitable choice. With roles in films like “Saving Private Ryan” and as a producer “Band of Brothers”, he was a long -time advocate of veterans and their families.
But at the weekend the news broke that the ceremony – sometimes set at the end of this month – was canceled. A representative from the Academy said it is part of the effort to “focus on his main mission” to prepare cadets for leadership and fighting as officers in the US Army.
It didn’t work well with Trump.
He published: “Our big West Point (increases all the time!) Intelligence the ceremony of actors Tom Hanks. We don’t need destructive, awakened the recipients who won our weighted American awards !!! (SIC)”
He continued to criticize the prices in general and called for a review of their “standards and practitioners” and suggested that their “dead evaluation” soon increased sharply – though not a flattering way.
Tom Hanks did not respond publicly to the controversy. The Association of Graduates previously praised him as someone who made “more for a positive depiction of a member of the American service” than most others.
Whether Hanks or not, still receive the price privately, remains uncertain.
