In an unprecedented step, US President Donald Trump welcomed the Chief of the Pakistan Army, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Wednesday. Meeting is significant because it comes in the middle of the background of recent India Pakistan conflict.
Trump praised Munira to prevent an escalation of the conflict between India and Pakistan, and said, “The reason I had it here was that I wanted to thank him for not going to war and end it …”
Trump said, “Prime Minister Modi just left and we are working on a business agreement with India and also with Pakistan … I’m so happy. Two very clever people decided not to continue with the war. These are two great nuclear forces.
India expressed her disagreement with Trump’s claim that he had stopped the recent “war” between the two South Asian nations.
Last month, Trump claimed that India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire after interviews mediated in the US and stated that he called on both nations to prefer trade over conflict.
During Tuesday’s call with Trump, however, Prime Minister Narendra Modi explained that the ceasefire resulted in direct conversations between Indian and Pakistani military military, not American mediation, according to the best Indian diplomat, Foreign Minister Vikram Misri.
Pakistan’s role in the war of Israel and Iran
The Trump-Munir meeting comes after the news speculated about the possibility that Pakistan helps Iran during his continuing conflict with Israel.
“They know Iran very well, better than most others and are not happy out of nowhere,” Trump said after meeting with munirus at the White House. “He sees what’s going on. And he agreed with me,” Trump said without explaining what he meant.
Bloomberg’s report said that Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq said on Monday that Iran was open to restore negotiations if Israel stops its attacks and quotes direct communication with its Iranian counterpart. Pakistan indicated that he could seek the role of a mediator in the Middle East conflict.
“Our intention has always been to see successful negotiations between the United States and Iran,” said a gift in parliament, according to the Bloomberg report.
Meanwhile, Asim Munir at the public address in Washington, DC, said the Pakistani “clear and strong” support for Iran in his war with Israel, and at the same time supported the efforts to de-schooling the situation.
The last Pakistani military leader to meet the US President was General Pervez Mušaraf in 2001, which did so as the head of state of the nation during his work as a military dictator.
