US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is trying to make a business agreement and visit the White House next week.
Donald Trump said he congratulated the election victory when he called the Canadian leader on Tuesday.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said his country deserves respect from the US and only enters business and security interviews with President Donald Trump “for our conditions”.
Carney said that Washington would only visit Washington when there was a “serious discussion” that respected Canadian sovereignty.
Carney and Trump have spoken since then and agreed to meet in the near future, according to the Canadian office of the Prime Minister.
“The leaders have agreed on the importance of Canada and the US that work – as independent, sovereign nations – for their mutual improvement,” he reads.
