
Pakistan’s Field Marshal Asim Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif are facing heavy criticism online from their own citizens. It all started after US President Donald Trump shared ‘pro-India’ posts on Truth Social.
President Trump shared pictures of India Gate and called it “India’s beautiful triumphal arch”. He then shared the cover of the magazine with Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with him.
Washington announced a cut in tariffs on Indian goods to 18%, slightly less than Pakistan’s rate. The United States imposed a 19% tariff on Pakistan. This is a reduction from the previously proposed rate of 29%. The revised 19% rate was officially implemented through an executive order signed on July 31, 2025.

Many Pakistanis reacted with frustration. Social media, especially X, is abuzz with memes about the growing closeness between Modi and Trump. Critics in Pakistan continued to mock and question the leadership
Donald Trump cut India’s tariff from 50% to 18%, giving it a slight price advantage over Pakistan. India’s 18% rate remains lower than the tariffs faced by Vietnam (20%), Bangladesh (20%) and China (over 30%).

One of the harshest comments came from Umar Ali: “Donald Trump treated the field marshal like that mistress who makes the mistress do all the illegal and dirty work and when it comes time to give or take something, he says I am forced to obey my family’s decision, forget me. My body will remain my husband but my soul will always be yours.”

“Every step Pakistan takes is in personal interest (of leaders). Not in national interest. Know the difference and live by it,” a user replied to another who tried to celebrate Pakistan’s efforts.
Another user wrote: “Trump has ruined all of Munir Machi’s dreams in my opinion.”
“The mental patient’s desires dissolved into tears.”
Even after all the flattery, flattery and gossip, they were left alone,” said another.
“Donald Trump gave his favorite Field Marshal Asi Munir a bamboo skewer,” read the sarcastic comment.
Another user wondered: “Are all Pakistanis really that stupid? How do you think India and Pakistan can be treated by others as equal partners?”
American Tariffs for India
US tariff on India is among the lowest in Asia. Japan and South Korea have a 15% reciprocal tariff rate. Taiwan now uses a reciprocal tariff of 15%, down from the original 20%. Afghanistan also has a 15% tariff.
However, the lowest numbers belong to oil-rich Asian countries such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates. They have a 10% US duty. Iran, Maldives and Nepal also have 10% US tariffs.
Another country, Russia, also has the lowest US tariffs, at 10%. So does Ukraine.

Prime Minister Donald Trump Modi’s post attracted many more such negative comments from Pakistani citizens.
“Asim Munir has proven to be a failed marshal. Under his bad leadership, public hatred towards the military has grown. KPK and Balochistan are in chaos. National institutions are dysfunctional and the economy is at its worst. Time for his resignation, his responsibility,” wrote one user.
“Free Imran Khan. No words for the fascist current regime of Pakistan just go Asim Munir go,” wrote a user named Gulfam Ahmad.
“Dictator psychopath Asim Munir is the main psychopath who is holding our country Pakistan hostage and is running fake cases against our leader Imran Khan,” wrote a fan of Imran Khan.
Another user called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif a “puppet” of “dictator” Asim Munir.
