US President Donald Trump announced a ban on visa for foreign students to start visiting the University of Harvard. The decision was reportedly announced on Wednesday and increased the intervention of its administration over higher education.
“I have found that it is necessary to limit the entry of foreign nationals trying to enter the United States only or mainly to participate in the study course at Harvard University or in the Harvard University program,” quoted Trump News GWNCY AFP.
In the executive order signed on Wednesday, Trump said it would endanger national security to allow Harvard to continue to organize foreign students on his campus at Cambridge, Massachusetts.
“I have found that the entry of the above -described class of foreign nationals is harmful to the United States, because in my judgment Harvard’s behavior has made an inappropriate destination for foreign students and researchers,” Trump wrote, according to the Associated Press.
The order further escalates the struggle of the White House with the oldest and richest university in the country.
The Federal Court in Boston previously blocked the Ministry of Internal Security last week to select foreign students at Harvard. Trump’s order evokes another legal authority.
It results from Harvard’s refusal to submit a number of requirements of the federal government. This recently escalated after the Ministry of Internal Security said Harvard refused to provide records on the misconduct of foreign students.
Harvard said it had followed the application, but the government said the school’s response was insufficient.
Last month, the US Foreign Ministry ordered all its consular missions abroad to start further investigating visa applicants who want to travel to Harvard University for any purpose, according to the internal cable seen by Reuters.
