
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump promised to position the country as “the crypto capital of the planet” during his campaign, which he has fulfilled before taking office in January 2025. Yale alumnus Bo hines serves as executive director of the newly formed “crypto committee”, which is still in its formation phase as new members join and develop their agenda. These steps mark Trump’s intention to articulate the legal, financial and operational framework of the U.S. cryptocurrency industry.
Trump announced in an article on social media platform Truth Social that Hines will play this key role in the crypto committee – also officially known as the Presidential Council of Digital Assets Advisory Board.
President-elect Donald Trump elaborated on his vision for the crypto committee, describing it as an advisory group composed of “Luminaries” in the cryptocurrency industry. However, details about other members joining the body are still very small.
Earlier this month, President-elect Donald Trump appointed David Sacks as chairman and the White House’s “tsar” of crypto and AI. According to reports, Sacks is the former COO of Paypal, and he has invested in high-profile businesses such as SpaceX and Uber.
Trump details the role Mabass and Hines play in shaping the mission and goals of the cryptocurrency committee in his Truth Social Post.
“Bo is a Yale graduate and Wake Forest University Law School. BO will work with David to promote innovation and growth in the digital asset space while ensuring industry leaders have the resources they need to succeed.
As senior leaders of the Crypto Council, Hines and Burlap will jointly focus on establishing a comprehensive legal framework to support the U.S. cryptocurrency sector while addressing financial risks associated with the volatile digital asset market.
During the campaign, Trump promised to make Bitcoin a reserve asset for the United States. In September, he set up a cryptocurrency called World Liberty Financial, aiming to advance the defi industry. By November, Trump Media Group had applied for a trademark for “TruthFi”, which demonstrated potential ambitions in the Web3 space.
Amid these developments, Trump won the US election in November, which brought Bitcoin to a record-breaking all-time high of more than $108,135 (about Rs 9.2 lakh). The total valuation of the cryptocurrency market has also surged in recent days to reach US$3.3 trillion (approximately Rs 280,915,61 crore).
Trump’s ambitions go beyond cryptocurrencies as he also aims to consolidate the United States as a leader in the AI industry.
In a truth society post, Trump announced Sriram Krishnan as a senior policy adviser to artificial intelligence in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Krishnan, a former Microsoft executive, will work with Hines and Hines to formulate policies to rule the rapidly growing cryptocurrency and AI sector.
