US President Donald Trump announced on Thursday (July 31) that the United States and Mexico agreed to expand tariffs to key Mexican exports to the next 90 days, while both countries are working to complete a comprehensive trade agreement.

- 25% of the car tariff and
- 50% tariff for steel, aluminum and copper.
“These are exactly the same conditions as our recent short -term trade,” Trump wroteHe added that expansion will allow both governments more time for a longer -term agreement.
Netariff barriers removed
Trump also claimed that Mexico agreed to “immediately end his non-Tariff trade barriers”, which he believes was numerous and problematic for American exports. The specifics on which the barriers will be canceled were not provided.
US officials present
Trump noted that several higher US officials were involved in calls and ongoing negotiations, including: vice president of JD Vance, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessnt, Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, Trade Minister Howard Lutnick, US Sales Representative and Ambassador Jamieson Greer, Susie Wiles and Miller’s internal security.
