Temba Bavum in South Africa after his historical triumph in the final of the World Championship on Saturday 14th June defeated Temba Bavum.
Bavuma at a press conference after the match emphasized how much more needs to be done to create their heritage in the longest format.
“As a team, we said it was our chat in our Arindale camp that after three, four years as a group we like to judge for three or four years. We will publish there and see where we are,” Bavuma said.
“It is a beautiful thing that we have this uphole as part of our journey, but when it comes to leaving the legacy, we understand that after 2 years we do not leave heritage,” he added.
When he talked about what other goal for a South African cricket, Bavumo iteered, as he wanted to see how his party won victory on a subcontinent and created a dominant heritage like that like it is Graeme Smith and his legendary party in their leadership.
“Yes, we have created history, but as a group we would like to imitate, not if better than what Grae and his team did. They managed the standard and I do not think that someone has achieved this standard so far,” he shared.
“So in 3-4 years, as a group, in 2027, I would like us to be in a position where we go to Pakistan, go to India, win there and do much more,” he added.
“We only had two years, but in the two years it brought a lot of success, something we don’t look around, but I think we would like to see where we have been in the next two years,” he concluded.
The last South Africa defeated India in the test in 2010 in Nagpur, while their previous victory over Pakistan was in the 2013 test in Dubai.
Bavum certainly took South Africa to an unprecedented territoryBut the captain does not intend to stop soon and focused on subcontinental dominance. In November, they will receive India in the test series of two matches and it could be a perfect chance for them to show off their talent.
