A video doing the rounds on the internet, which allegedly shows two doctors “competing” to perform a caesarean section, is receiving massive flak on social media. The viral clip, said to be from Pakistan, sparked outrage among netizens who criticized the doctors’ behavior for violating patients’ privacy and putting a “game” before someone’s life.
A local media report said an investigation into the incident had been launched and necessary action would be taken against those found responsible.
What did the viral video show?
A video taken from an operating theater shows two surgeries taking place in the same room, with curtains placed between them to separate the two beds. Two female doctors record this act while a group of surgeons continue to operate on their patients. The duo refer to themselves as “Supporter One” and “Supporter Two” as they giggle and await the outcome of who will complete the operation first.
However, Mint could not independently verify the authenticity of the viral video.
What measures have been taken?
According to Lahore-based Pakistani media outlet 24 News HD, the incident took place at Lady Willingdon Hospital. The report indicated that the administration had opened an investigation.
“The committee will examine the video in detail and strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible,” the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Farah told the newspaper.
The doctor said that an independent commission of inquiry is investigating the incident and will find out how the video was recorded and shared from the operating theatre.
How did people on the internet react?
The clip generated an abundance of reactions. Here’s how social media users reacted:
One person wrote: “This is a potential lawsuit where medical licenses have been revoked in the West for violating patient privacy and potentially infecting theater. No wonder the quality of doctors in this country has seriously declined with medical schools on every street.”
Another added: “Girls recording and laughing deserve to be punished first. Such pathetic behavior during another woman’s most vulnerable moments.” A third wrote: “Nothing surprises me in Pakistan anymore. A fourth commented: ‘God, the level of illiteracy of supposedly literate doctors is insane.’
